They Posed and Supported NoH8

(Michelle Resendiz)

I am proud to say that I also posed for the campaign to support the GLBT community.

I’m sure that we’ve all heard of the NOH8 Campaign haven’t we? In case you saw the pictures floating around, and you weren’t exactly sure what this was all about let me break it down for you. The NoH8 Campaign started back in 2008 (November, 4th) when the Prop. 8 was passed, amending the state constitution, banning same-sex marriage in California.  After that, the outcry of support and protest swept through the GLBT community, and everyone joined forces to support something they believed in.

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska (http://www.bouska.net) and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8″ painted on one cheek in protest.

Nearly 3 years since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to over 13,000 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and many more.

The NOH8 Campaign has received overwhelming support from around the world, and has appeared in various local and national news programs and publications. The images are widely used on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to spread the message of equality. Eventually the images will be compiled for a large-scale media campaign.

The NOH8Campaign is a charitable organization registered with  the IRS as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation.
Funds raised by the NOH8 Campaign are used to promote and raise awareness for Marriage Equality and anti-discrimination on a global level through an educational and interactive media campaign.
