What’s that funky beat you’re hearing? It’s Fusion’s Video Pick this week Asher Monroe with his newest hit “Here With You”. I am really digging this song this week, check it out Fusionites!
“I wanted an anthem-feeling, fun-vibe song that people could blast in their cars and put their hands up to”
Asher might seem like the new guy on the block at the moment, but he’s been in the business for YEARS! Starring in productions from the age of seven on, Asher has established himself as a actor long before his musical debut. Recently he sat down with billboard for their cover story. He dished the dirt on everything from his new album to working with Chris Brown. “I definitely think we’re in for not just one song,” Monroe says. “I have a lot of tracks that I’ve already produced, but if he wants to do more, I’m not going to say ‘no.’”
Drawing inspiration from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Queen and Elton John, Monroe and his team have been working for two years to craft a selection of pop-driven tracks that will both showcase his voice and stick in listeners’ heads.
“All of my songs are very melodic, very fun and catchy,” Monroe says. “I always want people leaving my songs remembering the hook.”
Monroe has already recorded more than a dozen songs, says co-producer/co-writer Alon Levitan, who also works under D Empire to co-manage the 24-year-old singer. However, because those songs were recorded before Brown was attached to the project, most will probably not make it onto the upcoming album.

Neon Hitch is SUPER NEON here, don’t you agree? There’s some new Neon exclusively released over at Billboard.com! You’ve got to check this out, I’ll admit it was not the usual that I’m used to hearing from them, but all in all its good to see some new music hitting the airwaves. I love when there’s something new to experience and anticipate don’t you?
Ok so first things first you may remember Neon Hitch like this…
Now head over here to check out some new exclusive songs!
Ahead of her forthcoming debut album, U.K. singer-songwriter Neon Hitch has unveiled a new EP, “Happy Neon,” launching exclusively on Billboard.com
Produced by Neon Hitch and Happy Perez, “Happy Neon” marks a stopgap between breakout singles such as “Fuck U Betta” and her Gym Class Heroes collaboration “Ass Back Home” and her Warner Bros. Records debut album. After a mutual friend connected the singer with Perez (who previously produced Frank Ocean’s standout mixtape cut “We All Try”), the duo hunkered down on new material together and ended up creating a standalone release. “We locked ourselves in the studio for a week and just made music constantly,” Hitch recalls. “It turned out to be this whole EP, and there’s no way we couldn’t call it ‘Happy Neon.’”

If you are a fan of dance you know Afrojack. Everyone on the planet has heard the name a time or two… hitting star status looks good on this “Super DJ”. The Netherlands native is only 25, and has already achieved goals that one could only dream of. From working with Pitbull and Ne-Yo, to mentor David Guetta, he has some of the biggest names in the business on his side. He recently sat down with Billboard for a cover story interview, and we have the highlights for you.
What makes the Netherlands such a dance-music hotbed?
Our music has a lot of balls. Most music that comes out of Holland is basically the harder part of dance music-hip-hop, drum’n'bass.
How involved are you in the day-to-day of Wall Recordings?
The label is my baby. Every song that gets released, every artist that gets signed, I decide. I try to do everything from picking the cover image to helping [Shermanology DJ Andy] Sherman know what songs to play in a solo performance.
How are festivals different from solo gigs for you?
For a solo gig, the crowd knows your shit. At a festival, a lot of people came to see other artists, so you have to put on a signature set and performance: This is what I do, this is why I’m here. At solo gigs, I’m a DJ — I’ll play two-and-a-half hours, and not just my own music, also my favorite songs by other artists.
So, solo gigs are more traditional DJ sets? No “pressing play”?
You’re never just pressing play. If you’re a guy in a cube with a mask on, you can press play. Deadmau5 also said himself he’s not a DJ — don’t talk about stuff you don’t know about. I don’t know shit about LED walls and giant mouse heads; I can’t judge it. But if you put four CD players in front of me or [Sebastian Ingrosso] or even Skrillex, we’ve been DJ’ing for so long, we can do a lot of things with those CD players.
Your full-length studio debut, slated for a summer 2013 release, might be a double-album. Why?
One album would be accessible dance music, crossover tracks, maybe some hip-hop, and one more underground stuff. Pitbull and a lot of other artists are using the opportunity to get new people into dance music. That’s what I’m trying to do right now. People are always scared of things crossing over, that it won’t be cool anymore, but we don’t do it because it’s cool. Eighty thousand people in a crowd, and they all love each other because they love dance music-that’s why I do this.
On one of your tracks for Pitbull, “I’m Off That,” he sings: “Label execs, I’m off that/But DJs, I love that.” What do you think that means?
I think it shows that these days artists are doing more of what they want themselves. It sounds really dumb to wait for a label to say yes to something. I’m following my heart, basically. A lot of people are scared to.

Alex Clare is one of the most successful “overnight blow-ups” this country has ever seen. This British singer/songwriter is all over the radio now, and not only that but its almost every station. You can hear “Too Close” on everything from pop to dance stations all over the world. This universal song, has peaked billboard to sit down with Alex to discuss his new album.
Though he’s still riding the success of his breakthrough album, “The Lateness of The Hour,” Clare tells Billboard that he has begun to piece together his next record.
“We started album two a couple of weeks ago. We started the writing process in earnest so hopefully by next June, we should have a new record out,” he says, adding that the idea of having a new album out next summer is “pretty exciting although slightly daunting and terrifying.”
Clare told Billboard that his dream is to have a lot more live instrumentation on his future release.
“My intention is to have more of a live orchestration and strings. When I wrote most of the songs, I had that in mind,” he says. “Hopefully I’ll be able to realize that with the next record — get a little bit more useful dynamic on that.”
While he isn’t revealing any collaboration plans for album two, Clare says that there may be a few in the works.
“I don’t want to give them the kiss of death and say this is definitely happening because you just never know. The priority at the moment is getting the songs and production to a place that I’m happy with and then we’ll think about the collaboration side of things,” Clare says.

I think this is going to be a super interesting new album, and if its anything like “The Lateness of The Hour,” it’s bound to be a success! Congrats Alex, we can’t wait for more!

Alright Fusion listeners…. there has been a lot of speculations on where Electric Daisy Carnival will be held in Chicago. Since not all of our listeners are from the Chicago-land area, I wanted to shed some light on the possibilities.
EDC Chicago Tweeted on December 13th that the possibility for the the 2013 event could be Soldier Field (On the Chicago Lake Front), Chicago Land Speedway (50 miles outside the City of Chicago), or Toyota Park (25 Miles outside the City of Chicago). The EDC Chicago twitter feed did say it confirmed the 300,000+ person venue. So lets break down which one of these venues could hold that many people.
*Soldier Field’s Capacity is 61,500 people in the stands, its possible for another 5,000 or so to fit on the field.
*Chicago Land Speedway’s Capacity is $75,000 and sits on 930 acres of land which can hold more than 50,000 cars in its parking lots.
*Toyota Park’s Capacity is 28,000 for concerts, and only has a 6,000 car capacity in its 3 parking lots!
If I had to bet on which venue was going to be hosting the 300,000+ person crowd I would say it has to be Chicago Land Speedway! 75,000 people in the stands, room for 50,000 cars, and don’t forget all of the space on the track level. I guess we will have to wait till January 16th for the final answer to where EDC Chicago will be held.

This week Fusionites I want all of you to celebrate love with me this Valentines week by looking at the work and lives of two very important and talented women. Unfortunately for todays article there is a little bit of a bittersweet sting. But what is love without a little bitter sweetness to it? Love always makes us appreciate what he have and what we had when it is gone.
I’m sure many of us have already heard about the recent and sudden death of one of the most celebrated songbirds of our time, Ms. Whitney Houston this past Saturday February 11th 2012. Ms. Houston passed on the eve of the 54th ammy Awards this weekend. The determining factor in her sudden death are still very much under investigation but I wanted to take a step back and remember the life and career of one of the most important and influential Pop Icons of our day! So let’s take a look at the deeply talented and deeply troubled songstress Whitney Elizabeth Houston.
If you Google or even Wiki her this is what you will find out about our fallen songstress. She was born in New Jersey in the Summer of 1963. She was of African-American, Native American, and Dutch descent. Her Mother is famous Gospel legend Cissy Houston, her cousins were Dionne and Dee Dee Warrick, her Godmother-Aretha Franklin. Born into a highly musical family Whitney was first exposed to music through the Baptist and Pentecostal church as she grew up. She was also impacted by artists such as Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack, and Gladys Knight.
She had an uncanny Mezzo-Soprano voice and became a backup singer for Lou Rawls and Jermaine Jackson when she was only fifteen years old. She also was a background singer for Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” which would later turn into an even larger hit due to Whitney’s version on the Grammy winning album The Bodyguard. She also started modeling after she was spotted by a fashion photographer, at Carnegie Hall, singing with her mother. She became the first African-American woman to grace the cover of Seventeen Magazine.
She was finally discovered in 1983 and was signed to Arista Records by Clive Davis himself after he saw the songstress sing at a club with her mother. Her first album came out in February of 1985 which was self titled spawning a ton of acclaim and recognition with songs like “You Give Me Good Love,” “Saving All My Love For You,” and the “Greatest Love of All.” The album would stay atop Billboards 200 top albums for fourteen weeks straight and her song, “Greatest Love of All” became the number one album of the year and was certified 13x’s Platinum in the U.S. and sold a total of 25 million copies Worldwide.
In 1986 she won her first Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Performance for “Saving All My Love For You.” She later won an Emmy for that same performance at the Grammys, for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.
Her 2nd album was released in 1987 with her first name as the title. Though the album had mixed reviews Whitney ended up being the first artist to land at #1 on both U.S. and U.K. charts. With her single “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” she won her 2nd Grammy award. When it came to her 3rd album she took an edgier approach working with producers like Babyface, Stevie Wonder, and L.A. Reid. Some thought the album was too over the top and superficial but others loved her fresher R&B direction. In 1990 Houston performed the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Superbowl and her rendition of the song was released as a commercial single and reached the top 20 on the U.S. charts making her the only artist to turn the national anthem into a pop hit! Proceeds went to the American Red Cross Gulf Crisis Fund and stirred patriotism across the board in the nation due to the U.S. being in the thick of the Persion Gulf War.
1992 would bring her biggest success, I believe to date, with the release of her film debut, “ The Bodyguard.” The soundtracks lead single, “ I Will Always Love You” written and originally recorded by Ms. Dolly Parton was acclaimed by many critics. The single peaked at #1 on Billboard and went 4x’s platinum and became the best-selling single by a female artist in U.S. history! Whitney went on to win three more Grammys, a slew of Billboard Awards, Soul Train Awards, an NAACP Image Award, and the Sammy Davis Jr Entertainer of the Year award!
In 1998 My Love Is Your Love was released to critical acclaim with an even more funkier and edgier vibe due to producers Missy Elliot, Rodney Jerkins, and Wyclef Jean. Singles such as “Heartbreak Hotel” and “It’ Not Right But It’s Okay” became huge on the dance and club charts spinning at number one once again! The Album went 4x’s Platinum. That same year she also won an Academy Award for her duet with Mariah Carey, who she had a respectful rivalry with back then, with the song, “When You Believe” for the Prince of Egypt soundtrack.

Just Whitney came out in 2002 and was released to mix reviews and a few of the singles did top the Billboards Hot Dance Club Play hits. The rumors began after this about her drug use to which she denied to a point but did admit to having had substance abuse with alcohol, weed, and cocaine.
After years of controversy with her marriage to bad boy Bobby Brown, and the rumors of drug use spinning out of control Whitney released I Look to You in 2009. The single “I Look to You” went Gold and marked her first #1 album since the Bodyguard! The album itself went Platinum.
After all of the accolaides and her comeback album, the tour she embarked on was trampled by sad reviews and fans who actually walked out of her concerts. The tour was cancelled do to Whitneys health issues and poor reviews. Her battle she kept behind closed doors most of the time with substance abuse, but was visible for everyone to see.
Her influence shined through so many people and her art dominated the Pop and dance scene leading the way for other artists to this day! Her charity work and stance on Aparthide were exceptional. She became one of the 1st African American Female Artists to grace MTV. There was a Barbie Doll inspired in Houstons image, but I think what Richard Corliss of Time magazine said of her career explains it all,
“Of her first albums ten cuts, six would be ballads. This chanteuse Houston, had to fight for air play with rockers. The young lady had to stand uncovered in the locker room of macho rock. The soul strutter had to seduce a music audience that anointed few Black artists with superstardom…she was a phenomenon waiting to happen, a canny tapping of the listeners yen for a return to the musical middle. And because every new star creates her own genre, her success has helped other Blacks, other Women, other Smooth singers find an avid reception in the Pop Marketplace.”
Her acheviements were many here are some just to name a few: She is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most awarded female act of all time having 6 Grammys, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, 2 Emmys, 1 Oscar, and has sold over 170 million albums worldwide! She set the bar for female performers and actresses with movies like the Bodyguard, and Waiting to Exhale and her soon to be released remake of Sparkle. Her style and grace influenced a generation of young artists and will continue too because her voice will never be anything less then perfection. Her light may have dimmed early, but it will always shine on through her music, her movies, and her angelic voice. I will leave you with this message from Ms. Houston herself on this Valentines week, “I wish you joy and happiness but above all I wish you love.”
