Fusionites I want to introduce you to the fresh faced, former brunette, (newly dyed grey haired), Marina and the Diamonds! Marina aka Marina Lambrini Diamandis rose to fame after coming in at #2 after Ellie Goulding, on the BBC’S Sound of 2010 Poll list!

This Greek and Welsh singer/songwriter/musician, has been compared to Lily Allen and Florence and the Machine, but with a digital, pop-ier, danceable edge! She has recently become the new face of Max Factor but jokes about her looks in her song, “Hollywood” singing that people tell her she looks like Shakira and Catherine Zeta Jones. With singles like “Shampain,” “Hollywood,” and “I Am Not A Robot” coinciding with music videos that are reminiscent of Michael Jacksons Thriller and Katy Perrys Last Friday Night, and David Bowies Ziggy Stardust, this girl has become the hidden treasure of the UK. However her U.S. cred came from touring on Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour in the States!

Marinas’ stage name is usually confused with her back up band, but the origins of the name comes from her fans. Gaga has her little monsters, but Marina has her Diamonds. She explains her feelings towards this on her Myspace page along with her philosophy on why people can relate to her and her music, “I am Marina, and you are the diamonds… I never envisioned a character, pop project, band or solo artist. I saw a simple group made up of many people who had the same hearts. A space for people with similar ideals who could not fit in to life’s pre-made mold. I was terribly awkward for a long time! I really craved to be part of one thing because I never felt too connected to anybody and now I feel I have that all around me.”

For her second full length album Electra Heart she’s worked with producers ranging from Diplo, to Stargate, and even Dr. Luke. The album will be released on April 30th and you’ll be sure to see a review from me soon enough! Her latest singles from the new album were recently released in the UK and vary from Part 1-3 telling the story of a failed romance, my favorite being Part 2 and is called, “Part 2: Radioactive.” Check out the video below and be sure to look out for her latest single to hit airwaves, (video to come soon), “Homewrecker“.
