Tiesto Partners with GUESS Clothing
Tiesto for Guess Clothing

Tiesto for Guess Clothing

Not to be outdone in the latest EMD commercialization boom is DJ Tiesto, who’s been tapped by American Clothing line “GUESS” for their latest advertising campaign. The colossal DJ now joins other “A-list” EDM Producer’s to grace covers, billboards, T.V. commecials and banner ads for national advertising campaigns in the United States. First it was Avicii with Ralph Lauren, then it was Nervo with Covergirl and now Dj Tiesto with GUESS. However unlike Avicci and Nervo,  Tiesto has indicated that he will not be exclusive to the brand. Frankly, it’s rather shocking that GUESS would even consider that but then again, Tiesto is a force to reckon with. Tiesto has accrued over 13.6 million facebook fans and 1.5 million twitter followers in the last couple years, and has worked with HP,Heineken and Armani Exchange for advertising campaigs in the past. EDM Lobbying Group Announced

Notable industry people have announced the launch of The Association for Electronic Music (AFEM), an electronic dance lobbying group dedicated to the global advocacy of all things Electronic Dance. The organization  will bring artist, DJs, labels, promoters, publishers, agents, retailers and broadcasters together for one cause — to defend Electronic Dance Music from negative stereotypes and discrimination.

One the biggest problems affecting EDM today is the stereotype that anything related to EDM culture is linked to drug use and abuse. Now a group of industry pioneers led by James Barton (Live Nation), Patrick Moxey (Ultra Music), and Legendary producer Nile Rodgers (Chic,Aretha Franklin, Daft Punk)   are standing up and protecting our right to gather, party — and enjoy the music. Isn’t that what music is all about? –bringing people together. The Board of advisers consists of the following:

·       Matthew Adell, Beatport, CEO, retailer

·       James Barton, President of Electronic Music, Live Nation

·       Carlos Correal, Insomniac (music director for Electric Daisy festivals)

·       Jason Ellis, Positiva / Virgin Records

·       Stephanie LaFera, Little Empire Music

·       David Levy, WME: William Morris Endeavor

·       Maria May, CAA: Creative Artists Agency (agent for David Guetta)

·       Liz Miller, Big Beat / Atlantic

·       Paul Morris, AM Only (agent for Tiesto and Richie Hawtin)

·       Patrick Moxey from Ultra Records/President of Electronic Music for Sony Music, label

·       Maykel Piron, Armada Music

·       Duncan Stutterheim, ID&T

·       Amy Thomson, ATM Artists (manager for Swedish House Mafia)

·       John Truelove, Truelove

·       Danny Whittle, Promoter (IBZ Entertainment)

·       Tom Windish. Windish Agency.

Ultra records and Sony announce partnership

The music industry has been  shaken up once again, however this time in the dance music scene. Electronic dance music label Ultra Records announced yesterday a strategic partnership with Sony Music. Sony which is one of the three major labels left standing post-napster years and is home to artists such as Adele, Rita Ora, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Ke$ha, and many more. Ultra records is an EDM household name and home to Deadmau5, Steve  Aoki, Inna, Tiesto and Benny Benassi to name a few. Many industry folks are already wondering; what does this mean to the ever consolidating EDM world?

Kesha

Perhaps what we are witnessing here (in the words of Tommy Sunshine) is the rest of the EDM scene getting sucked into the mainstream. Ultra and Sony were already working behind the scenes but  people didn’t know it. This partnership brought us top 40 hits with samples from popular dance tracks such as “75 street brazil” and “Loca People”. Well, Sony liked what it saw (or sold) and decided to invest in Ultra records but the string of indie buys didn’t end there. Strictly Rhythm also announced their master catalog acquisition by BMG Chrysalis earlier this week.Strictly’s legendary catalog includes an array of classic tracks such as Reel 2Reel’s “I Like To Move it”, Ultra Nate’s “Free” and Wamdue Projects “King On My Castle”. Is Sony out for blood? we think so but Sony had to respond to Universal’s aquisition of dance-hit-making machine EMI somehow. The claws are out but only time will tell what this all means.

Sad Ending To Medina’s song “Forever” [The Interview]

Medina – Forever

Ultra Records’ artist and spectacular singer/song-writer Medina stops by Fusion Radio Studios on the eve of her  U.S. tour. Medina is just as sensual  in person as she is in her music which is why it’s a mystery that anyone would want to let her go. The Danish superstar dishes on everything ranging from her trip to New York the previous day to her plans in Seattle the following day and the sad ending to a relationship she thought would last “Forever”.

Kyle: What brings you to Chicago?

Medina: Shows!

Kyle: Where are you performing tonight?

Medina: Enclave and Drink in Schaumburg.

Kyle: You performed last night in New York?

Medina: I did a listener’s party and a bunch of interviews.

Kyle: Where are you off tomorrow night?

Medina: Seattle! I heard Seattle was crazy too!

Kyle: So let’s talk about your new song “Forever”. Talk a little bit about that song.

Medina: It’s a translation from a Danish version. I wrote it for my now ex-boyfriend. I was working in studio working on my next album and I was like “It’s the 14th today and I did not get him a present.” [Valentine’s Day] and then I wrote him a song, and the song is about how beautiful it is to love somebody even though we have bad sides.

Kyle: I couldn’t imagine a song written for me (laugh).

Medina: We’ll he got quite happy (laugh).

Kyle: What influence did the music of the 80’s have on the artist that you are today?

Medina:  You know whats funny, when I first started a lot of people would tell me “you write like an 80’s artist”. They have certain bends in the way that they sing and there’s an 80’s vibe in most of the stuff that I do.

Kyle:  If our listeners want to get in contact with you where can they go and do that?

Medina:  facebook.com/medinamusic …

Kyle: Thank you so much for coming out to the studio and next time you’re in Chicago, Definitely come out and see us!
