Deadmau5 Goes Unplugged…For A “Wee Bit”

Deadmau5 announced that he will be taking some time off because he has “a lot of work to do on some stuff,” both physically in his mixing jobs, and mentally he stated on his Tumblr. Deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, also stated that he will continue the rest of his tours, but after that in order to “get it done RIGHT” he will chill out.

Over the past several months Zimmerman had Tweeted that he has been suffering from “severe depression and anxiety.” He also claimed on his Facebook page that he will be, “Taking a long time off after my birthday to hopefully get it sorted out before I say or do anything more stupid than I already have.”

He’s taken full advantage of his social media outlets to connect with his audience and appears to have full support from his fans. We wish him the best!

Iggy Azalea the Wonder from Down Under

This week Fusionites I am dedicating both of my blogs to two up and coming artists that you will be elated to discover before anyone else! These two dirty little secrets will have you dancing in the club begging to have your inner diva burst out onto the dance floor. Now I want you to keep an open mind Fusionites, because these artists are not what we usually would hear on the charts, but since I am in charge of bringing new, underground, and local acts into your eardrums I hope that you will appreciate the fierceness that I am about to reveal to you!

The first Indie Artist I want to introduce you to for this week is Iggy Azelia! One warning for all you listeners, she is 100% a hardcore hip hop diva, her music is not for the faint at heart, so make sure if you have kids around the earmuffs go on!

This Australian spit fire is someone you need to look out for! Not just because she is a female, not just because she is a rapper, and not just because she is Australian, but because she is someone who, if you are into dance music, and just a little bit of hip hop, with some attitude that only a woman can whip you with, then Iggy Azelia is the hood chic for you!

Amethyst is this underground wonders real name. She began rapping at the age of fourteen and was obsessed with Tupac, and draws her inspiration from artists like Andre 3000, Kanye West, and her style from Gwen Stefani and Grace Kelly, with a little bit of Gaga mixed in as well.

She decided at the age of sixteen to pursue a music career, leaving her home of New South Wales, Australia, for Miami, Florida. Amethyst told her parents she was going on holiday, till she revealed shortly after that she would stay to follow her dream of becoming a hip hop artist! I’m not sure what parent wouldn’t fly to the States to kick their teenagers a$$ after that but her parents supported her decision, and thank God they didn’t come chasing after her. Amethyst felt a calling from Americas streets. She felt more comfortable here than anywhere else and knew that she wanted to make it here since this is where Hip Hop originated.

She came up with the name Iggy Azalea, because that was her dogs name when she was growing up. Iggy eventually moved to Los Angeles in 2010 where she currently resides and in 2011 she released several videos on Youtube that went viral. She eventually was discovered by of all people, Perez Hilton and posted her music video, “Pu$$y” on his website. She has since been courted by Interscope Records and in September of 2011 released her first free mixtape, taking a cue from my favorite painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat, naming her mixtape, “Ignorant Art” while borrowing his crown logo to place above the title. In October she performed alongside singers Mary J. Blige and Boys II Men, and in the last two months she has released a music video from her latest single My World” with a cameo from Tommy “Tiny” Lister the wrestler, most famously known as Deebo in the movie Friday&Friday After Next.”

She is starting her first tour this year and is working on another mixtape called “1990” (the year she was born in), with rapper YG. Once an official deal is made with Interscope there’s no telling what this artist is going to bring to table. Watch ou!

Be on the lookout tomorrow for the second underground artist I will be revealing Fusionites till then adieu!

Who is Duck Sauce?

Duck Sauce, also known as Armand Van Helden & A-Trak, are the duo responsible for bringing disco house tracks to our thriving club scene! The duo has been climbing our  Fusion charts for months with their breakout song “Barbra Streisand“. I first heard about Duck Sauce when my husband placed their video on my Facebook page thinking it was hilarious and that I needed to see it. When I discovered Duck Sauce after this initial encounter I knew I had found a group that I would want to share with a World of people who were never into dance music the way we Fusion Heads are! For me they were this underground treasure that half the people I knew had never heard of! This is why I have to share!

Here’s a little bit of back story according to The Village Voice about our band,”When A-Trak (Alain Macklovitch) and Armand Van Helden teamed up as Duck Sauce for the dance hit, “aNYway“, we were surprised, then pleased, then completely addicted. The production duo shares roots in old-school hip-hop and club-friendly, sample-based dance production, but come from entirely different worlds. To give an idea: In 1997, afifteen-year-old A-Trak was busy winning the world DMC Championship. He would spend that year, and the rest of his teens, known as one of the youngest, most talented scratch performers to ever exist. 1997 was also the year that Armand released hisGreatest Hits compilation (on premier house label, Strictly Rhythm) and Sampleslaya–a party breakbeat album. His next single, “U Don’t Know Me“, dropped later in the year and went to the #2 spot on Billboard pop charts.

Since then, A-Trak has gone from scratch champion to Kanye Wests DJ to Fool’s Gold label-founder and production guru. Armand has continued to put out hit records—2006′s “My My My” peaked at #2 on Billboard’s dance charts, and 2007′s “I Want Your Soul” did the same. With the wave of disco revival that has been sweeping through dance music in the last few years, it was only a matter of time until these two met. The result of that meeting? The birth of Duck Sauce, creators of delightfully nonsensical and catchy club bangers. The pair’s second single–debuting a year after their first go– had quite a buzz before it even came out. This probably had something to do with the title–”Barbra Streisand“–but it also had a lot to do with the fact that the song turned out to be insanely catchy. The star-studded video–featuring Kanye, Pharrell, Questlove, and Ezra Koenig–didn’t hurt either.”

Now if you are asking, why the name Duck Sauce you can blame the artist who does all of the groups artwork, Dust La Rock. Dust gave the duo a list of names and it took off from there according to A-Trak, “For me it was funny because I always used to make jokes about duck sauce. I was really mad about it when I saw it cause it was like, “Why didn’t I think of that?” So yeah, it came from Dust and I liked it right away and Armand liked it right away.” But don’t ask whether the name has a meaning, it really doesn’t, “If it’s dope, it’s dope!” A-Trak goes on to say. “For me, I usually run names by Kanye and Fool’s Gold, because Kanye would always get a trip out at these names I’d use for my projects. Kanye was obsessed with the name “Sunglasses Is A Must“, which was the name of my 2006 tour. He wanted to buy that name from me. So, when I can’t decide on a name, I’ll hit him up and he’ll tell me right away whether it’s good. I remember hitting him up about “Duck Sauce” and he goes “Oh yeah. For sure.” If you wanna look for some sort of meaning – it’s kinda New York. Like, New York Chinese takeout.”

If you ask Duck Sauce what they think of the electro-club & pop scene they’ll tell you that they like simplicity and that simplicity, and humor is what their music is about. “We started Duck Sauce at the beginning of  the top of ’09, when everyone was making really aggressive techno-electro with distorted bass-lines and crazy production tricks and a lot of glitchy stuff everywhere. It’s kind of grating to the ears after a while. We wanted to come in as a kind of breath of fresh air. Really, really simple. A loop that makes you happy and that you can sing along to. That’s it. If you like it, great! If not, oh well.”

Even the duo say its crazy to have a song with no chorus or real lyrics to climb the dance charts the way that Barbra Streisand has as well as their other chart toppers!

So what have we learned Fusionites? If you are into Pop music which I know you are, and have a sense of humor, you will fall in love with this duo who’s namesake is reminiscent of New York Chinese Takeout: Duck Sauce.

Other little known facts about where Barbra Streisand has been featured is in Glee’s 18th episode during their second season, the title episode being: “Born This Way.” It is also featured in the Vitamin Water Revive commercial and to date the “Barbra Streisand” music video has over 65 million views on Youtube and has even had parodies of the British Royal Navy and Homer Simpson singing and dancing to the song!  Barbra Streisand has been gracing our Fusion dance chart since 2011!

Kim Kardashian turns up the Jam!

(Michelle Resendiz)

This hot little socialite is everywhere now! Including the dance scene? According to Metro.UK there was a little controversy following the newlywed this week, when her 55 second clip of Jam (turn it up) hit you tube.

The  clip found its way onto YouTube this week, despite originally  being shelved following the poor response to the single.

And the racy footage sees the scantily-clad socialite showing off some of her  most famous assets.

At one point, the 30-year-old is seeing crawling around on all fours dressed  in a pair of miniscule pink hotpants and a white tank top.

She also pouts for the camera in bright red lipstick, writhes around on the  floor and runs her hands through her wet hair as the dance track is played

Kim – who married basketball star Kris Humphries earlier this month  – released Jam (Turn It Up) in March this year, but the track failed to make the  charts.

Her sister Khloe told MTV News that Kim had not released the song with the  intention of achieving pop stardom.

‘The song was for charity; it wasn’t for her to have a recording deal,’ she  said.

‘It was just something she wanted to do for herself and for fun, so the video  she made just for herself.

‘It was never meant to be played publicly.’
